Theme and Scope

The 6th International Symposium on Operations Research and its Applications in engineering, technology and management (ISORA'06), organized by the Asia-Pacific Operations Research Center (APORC) within the Asia-Pacific OR Societies (APORS) and Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and the Operations Research Society of China, is held in Urumqi, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China from August 8 to 12, 2006. Sponsors of ISORA'06 include the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Academy of Mathematics and System Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and ILOG Corporation.

At the council meeting of APORS held in Manila, January 2006, it is restated that ISORA is an important series of international symposiums with goals to provide a forum for regional and international OR researchers, educators, and practitioners to exchange ideas and approaches, to present research findings and state-of-the-art solutions, and to open new avenues of research cooperation, on all issues and topics related to the national and regional development.

Theme of the ISORA'06 focuses on "OR Application in Industry". We are particularly interested in submissions that report on experimental and applied research motivated by real-world problems. Theoretical and applied papers are expected to show convincingly the usefulness and efficiency of OR methods and algorithms discussed in a practical setting. Typical, but not exclusive, topics of interest are:

  • Optimization theory
  • Algorithm analysis and design
  • Logistics management
  • Graph theory/Combinatorics
  • OR methods in Bioinformatics
  • Applications in industry, service, finance, business and biology.

Proceeding Papers and Contributing Authors

From the volume 5 of the Lecture Notes in Operations Research --- Proceedings of the Fifth International Symposium on Operations Research and Its Applications (ISORA'05), the papers are indexed by ISTP (Index to Scientific & Technical Proceedings).

Thirty four full papers in this volume cover wide range of operations research theory and practice. Authors of these papers come from Canada, China mainland, Hong Kong, Germany, Iran, Japan, Korea, Kuwait, Taiwan, UK, and the United States. Many active researchers in various areas contributed their overview and introduction in their fields besides specific deep research achievements. During the symposium focusing sessions are organized such as in policy study, logicstics and supply chain management, scheduling, queueing and network optimization, bioinformatics, and management science.

ISORA'06 is held in Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang, the largest province in area in northwest China. We hope all the participants will enjoy very much not only the academic exchange, but also the unique mixed eastern and western cultures and beautiful landscape of the ancient silk road hubs.
